Embracing your whole self: 3 Ways to Nourish Your Mind, Body, and Soul

Day 6 of “10 days, 10 ways you can Shimmer”. Brought to you by Shimmer, Letters to Strangers, and Humans Anonymous.

Dear me, I promise to: be gentle, be kind, be loving

On day 6 of our “10 days, 10 ways you can Shimmer” campaign, we’re talking about: Mental Health. Today, we’re bringing you WHOLE PERSON WELLNESS. You’ll get a ton of resources, tips & freebies, so you can embrace and nourish ALL of YOU: mind, body and soul!

Did you know about 80% of adults with ADHD have at least one co-morbid mental health disorder? The most frequent of which include anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance use, and personality disorders. And that’s why ADHD can take a long time to diagnose - the symptoms of ADHD may be masked by symptoms of other disorders, which often overlap or appear very similar to the symptoms of ADHD.

3 ways to take care of your mental health:

  1. Keep a symptom diary. This is especially helpful for those who are still seeking an ADHD diagnosis. But even if you already have one, a symptom diary can help you pinpoint helpful trends and guide treatment for doctors, therapists, or coaches on your team.
  2. Self care. If there were only one thing you could do to manage your ADHD, self-care should be it. Self-care isn’t just about bubble baths and getting enough sunshine. It also means taking your meds regularly, getting on a consistent sleep schedule (I know, ugh), eating regularly, and saying no - to yourself and others.
  3. Get help. If you struggle with self-care, with other mental health conditions, or just daily tasks at work or home, it’s okay to ask for help. Maybe that’s therapy, meds, a coach, a professional organizer or cleaner, a laundry service…the possibilities may surprise you.
